But I think the admonishment that caused that insecurity was directed as much at us as at Private Ryan, and I think if there is anything to be gained from the losses our forefathers suffered at Normandy, it is in a nagging insecurity we may have over whether we have "earned" the lease on freedom they bought for us. Maudlin sentimentalism? Maybe for some.
