The Inkpot started in 1996 and, over the years, has amassed the largest archive of theatre and dance reviews in Singapore. Our writers have been invited to review for print media such as The Straits Times and The Business Times, and have facilitated review-writing workshops as well as sat on judging panels for the Life! Theatre Awards, Short and Sweet Theatre Festival etc. We are always on the look-out for new writers - interested in giving it a shot? |
Writing for The Flying Inkpot Theatre Reviews |
|
All writing for The Inkpot is done on a voluntary basis (no, the editors are not paid either!) but writers receive complimentary press tickets for all plays that they review. The use of the reviews in any non-commercial capacity will be at the discretion of the editors but credit for authorship of the reviews remains with the writer. Any use of the reviews in a capacity that involves payment will be determined at the sole discretion of the writer. The commitment is roughly one review a month and everything is done
via email (e.g. submission of reviews, editor's comments, etc.). Reviewers
are not assigned productions to review but make selections on their
own. After three reviews, the editors will decide whether the new writer will come on board as one of our regular Inkpot writers. Note: Only regular Inkpot writers are eligible for press tickets. So start writing now! After watching your next play, put your thoughts on paper and email your review (minimum 500 words) to matthewlyon@myway.com and cc theatre@inkpot.com. Make sure you include the name of the production, the name of the theatre or dance company, the date and time of performance, the venue, a star rating out of five, and a list of the show's credits from the programme. And do check out some of our reviews before writing yours to have a sense of the different writing styles you might want to play around with. Ultimately, though, it is best to discover your own! |
